At light+building 2010, the world鈥檚 biggest lighting trade fair to be held in Frankfurt from 11 to 16 April, Zumtobel will present trend-setting
initiatives and custom lighting concepts for all
areas of application. With numerous initiatives
and product innovations, Zumtobel will again
set new standards in terms of quality and energy
efficiency. For instance, with effect from 1
April 2010, Zumtobel will supply all luminaires
with a five-year guarantee, thus emphasising its
claim to be the leading manufacturer of designoriented
luminaires with utmost technical and
practical value.
At Zumtobel鈥檚 650 m² trade-fair stand in the
Festhalle, visitors can stroll through a city of
light fascinating them with lighting solutions in
line with the motto 鈥淟EDs control light鈥. The
core of the trade-fair stand will be the Future
Cube which allows a glimpse into the future of
building design. In collaboration with leading
manufacturers, masterminded by renowned architect
Stefan Behnisch, Zumtobel carried out
a study on future developments with the aim of
providing key stimuli for the integral design of
buildings offering advantages in terms of economy,
ergonomics and energy efficiency. Visitors
to the Future Cube will be impressed by a
concept study for an OLED luminaire series devised
by the US-based design studio Continuum.
The wide-area light distribution provided by
organic LEDs offers a whole new range of creative
options for designers and planners. With
this luminaire range, Zumtobel wants to demonstrate
a new approach to this new generation
of light sources that can be implemented
even today.
Martin Brandt, COO of Zumtobel AG, expects
the trade fair to have positive effects: 鈥淭hanks
to Zumtobel鈥檚 superior design standards, we
are the partner for lighting solutions that are not
influenced by short-lived trends. By extending
our product guarantee to five years, we put
special emphasis on our long-term thinking to
the benefit of our customers; we are the first
company in the luminaire industry to pass on
the benefit of these high quality standards to
our customers. At the same time we show LED
lighting solutions for all application areas that
are fit for the future and illustrate the wide range
of options these new light sources offer in terms
of technical and design perfection.鈥
Highlights
The Zumtobel brand stands for the perfect
combination of innovation, design and technology.
In order to allow more intense networking
and exchange of ideas among architects, designers and planners, Zumtobel will host a Designers鈥
Breakfast on a daily basis. Renowned
designers such as Harald Gr眉ndl, James Irvine,
Christopher Redfern, Nik Schweiger or Titus
Bernhard will talk about their latest product developments
and ideas in an informal setting at
the Zumtobel stand.
This year鈥檚 product highlights reflect the increased
importance of resource-saving developments
and high-quality LED technology. Thanks
to its professional competence, Zumtobel is
able to rely on a combination of high-quality
LED chips, modules, a top-rate cooling system
and excellent reflector technology to use the
opportunities offered by the new technology to
optimum efficiency.
The new generation of Mellow Light luminaires
demonstrates unrivalled efficiency in an impressive
design: the rather soft design features created
by designer James Irvine were combined
with uncompromising lighting technology. Thus,
it was possible to increase the ML V鈥檚 light output
ratio to a sensational 87%, which corresponds
to a system efficiency of 69 lumens per
watt. The luminaire is available as an LED version
and with fluorescent lamp technology.
In collaboration with the EOOS designer trio,
Zumtobel developed a fascinating spotlight
concept where the LED鈥檚 benefits and technical
features have been translated into perfect design.
The design follows LED requirements:
thanks to its flat, low-profile design, the spotlight
鈥 the first to be especially designed for
LED technology 鈥 blends perfectly into all kinds
of architecture. The cooling system, which is
indispensable for LEDs, has been turned into a
visible design element which gives the spotlight
a futuristic touch. At the same time, LED technology
allows a dramatic reduction in size, so
that the Discus spotlight boasts a height of just
28 mm. Discus is available as track and ceilingrecessed
spotlight incorporating LED technology,
as well as for compact HIT lamps.
More than ten years ago, the Panos downlight
range was developed by the Sottsass design
studio, which laid the foundations for one of the
most comprehensive and successful downlight
ranges available on the market. Now the luminaire
range has been adapted to the age of
LED lighting by Christopher Redfern. Thanks to
minimalist design and a system efficiency of up
to 68 lumens per watt, high-quality LED technology
has by now outcompeted the traditional
compact fluorescent lamps in terms of efficiency
and lighting quality. The modular structure of
the new Panos Infinity LED downlight range is
the contemporary response to the requirements
for a responsible management of resources.
